Acura Car Key Replacement: What Type of Key Does Your Model Use?
Acura has evolved its key technology significantly across its model lineup, and knowing which system your vehicle uses determines exactly how the replacement is performed. Older Acura models — early Integra and TL generations — used a basic laser-cut or double-sided mechanical key that could be duplicated on-site with relative speed. Mid-generation vehicles introduced transponder keys: the blade still looks conventional, but a microchip inside the head must be programmed to communicate with the car's ECU before the engine will start. More recent models, including the current RDX, MDX, and TLX, rely on proximity smart keys that allow push-button ignition and keyless entry without inserting anything into the ignition barrel at all.
Our mobile technicians carry blank key stock and programming hardware specifically for Acura vehicles, which means we can cut and program a replacement key at the roadside, in a parking lot, or at your home — whichever location works for you. We handle transponder cloning and EEPROM programming for immobilizer registration, smart key pairing, and fob battery replacement. If your existing key still works mechanically but the fob functions have stopped responding, we can often diagnose that on the spot too. The goal is always a fully functional, properly paired replacement key delivered without damage to your vehicle's electronics or trim.
